I’m a big fan exercise routines that only require only one piece of equipment, especially if that piece of equipment is the ubiquitous dumbbell. Let’s face it, everyone has a set of dumbbells lying around somewhere. And if you don’t, then you know someone who does and won’t mind if you borrow them.
Today I was sitting in front of the television and wanted to get a workout in while catching up on the news. So I did a Google search and came across this little gem of an article. It lists the top 10 dumbbell exercises and even gives a little GIF demo of each one.
Challenge accepted! I dusted off my power blocks, cleared off the ottoman in my living room (some of these exercises require a bench), and got to work. I did three rounds of 10-12 reps using just enough weight to make the last rep of each set difficult.
I did rearrange the order of the exercise so that I didn’t have to keep pulling my “bench” out (I have a very small living room). I also wanted to make sure I wasn’t having to switch back and forth between lighter and heavier dumbbell weights. So, here’s the order I did these in.
-
Dumbbell Bench Press
-
Kneeling One Arm Row
-
Lying Fly
-
Triceps Kickback
-
Shoulder Press
-
Lateral Raise
-
Upright Row
-
Stationary Lunge
-
Toe Raise
-
Alternated Biceps Curl
I also added in a couple planks and bridges on account of my back problems. Try out these exercises the next time your killing time in front of the television.
