The title of this post is 5 healthy snack ideas you’ve never thought of, and that’s a bit of a half truth. All the recipes are for chips, which I’m sure you’ve thought of before, but maybe not quite like this. Read on for 5 innovative chip recipes that will take your snacking to a new, healthy, and delicious level!
Healthy Snack Idea #1 Beet Chips
This recipe is courtesy of Sylvie over at Hollywood Homestead and I have to say, even though I love beets, I’ve never thought of making chips out of them and I’m not sure why. It’s pure genius! You can bet I’ll be making myself some beet chips in the very near future! Find this amazing and simple recipe for beet chips here.
Healthy Snack Idea #2 BBQ Potato Chips
Well, maybe you have thought of this one. I mean, who doesn’t love a good BBQ potato chip? But why not make your own BBQ chips at home and ditch those super processed wafers bought in a bag? Take a look at this simple recipe from DaNelle over at Weed ’em & Reap for homemade BBQ chips. You’re cookouts will never be the same again!
Tip: I highly recommend a splatter screen when pan frying anything, and this one is my favorite.
Healthy Snack Idea #3 Coconut Chips
What can be better than little bits of crispy coconut? What about bigger crispier coconut chips?! Check out this coconut chip recipe from Radiant Life and get your chip fix with no frying or oil involved!
Healthy Snack Idea #4 Okra Chips
When we think of chips, most of us think of flat round discs (unless your British, in which case the first three chip recipes were in fact crisp recipes)… but I digress! Next time you’re looking for a crispy snack, why not try this okra chip recipe from Lana over at Never Enough Thyme.
Healthy Snack Idea #5 Apple Chips
Chips don’t have to be limited to the savory variety. What about trying some sweet chips as a desert? Take a look at this Apple Cinnamon Chips recipe by Davida over at The Healthy Maven. To make this recipe even easier, use a food dehydrator instead of your oven… this also makes it so you don’t have to sit around watching your oven for hours 😉 This is the dehydrator I have and I love it. And before you ask… yes, I really did spend that much on a dehydrator. I previously owned a dehydrator and knew that the cheap ones are well…. cheap. After hours of research, I finally decided on this one, and we couldn’t be happier together!
So, there you have 5 ways to mix up your chip routine and make your snacking not only healthier, but more adventurous!
