This post has been coming for days. It started with a friend’s January 2nd Facebook check-in at a gym with a comment about all the “new resolution bitches” and came to fruition when I read an article titled “Your New Years [sic] Resolutions are Stupid.”
So, get ready for a bit of a rant… don’t say I didn’t warn you!
I don’t think anyone should be put down or have their goals called stupid no matter what time of year they made them. No one is any better than anyone else just because they were already fit or already had goals. Everyone has to start somewhere. I think whatever gives someone the inspiration to make that goal and work on it is a good thing.
I’m also pretty sick of all the comments from people regarding the number of new people in the gym in January. If you want to be able to tell people to get out of your way at the gym, you’re going to need to make your own gym at home… you don’t own the gym, you’re a member and so are a lot of people, including people who are just starting out trying to change their lives.
We were all the beginner once, quit being a snob. Instead, be a nice human being and encourage others to reach their goals…. perhaps the reason that so many New Year’s resolutions fail is because we’re edging everyone else out of the fit club and making them feel like they don’t belong and aren’t worthy!
Let’s try to start of the new year on a positive note rather than acting like a bunch of cliquish high school girls. Let’s make some new fit friends and help each other reach our goals. There’s enough room atop Mt. Success for us all.
Have you witnessed fitness snobbery?
